V-Bar Icebreakers

V-Bar Icebreakers

These chains are outstanding in serious winter weather conditions because the V-bar studs can bust through intense ice and packed snow. So, you'll be able to get to work and back home again even in the toughest weather. You can also use them if you ever go off-roading and end up in a mud-digging situation. These chains are going to help give your vehicle purchase to pull out and keep moving.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chains over tire.

2. Drape the chain over the tire, ensuring that the V-bar studs face away from the tire.

Make connections

3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire, then clamp the lever to fasten extra chain links and keep them from flapping as you drive.

Attach optional tensioners

4. Insert the included tool into the cam and twist to tighten the sidewall chain. Twist as many cams as it takes to get a tight fit.

Attach optional tensioners

5. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chain tension. Tighten any loose cams. If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to help give you a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Great set of chains, worked perfect on my 2015 Ford Explorer with 245/60 R18 tires. Watch the installation videos and give them a practice in ideal conditions, so when you’re in the elements and have to get it do e you’ll have the process down. I would also suggest to keep a small bungee cord in the bag with the chains to help give a little length to the links that hook around the backside of the tire to make it easier to grab to help pull the links to the hook. Otherwise these are awesome and great for ice or snow, and seem to be high quality.

There is a mistake here. The third item shipped to me was the t-bar can tensioner tool. It's to small to properly engage the cams.

It looks like we made a mistake and listed these as a fit for your tire size when they actually dont fit! I am glad to see you are already in touch with our customer service team. We will make it right with you and we will make sure that mistake is corrected. Thanks for reaching out about this!

They looked like a nice set of chains, but have to rate a 1 star due to my experience. A customer service rep confirmed via chat that these chains would fit my tires (265 70 R16), but they were too small.

by:

Had some trouble at first, the set was too large for my tires. I was able to remove one of the cleats and shorten the diameter... All is well now, hope I never have to use them, but nice to know I can.

by:

I was looking online for snow chains and was having a difficult time of getting the right chains I needed , and happen to come across E-Trailer , spoke with Paul and he the size I needed at a very reasonable price , had them shipped from Missouri to california they arrived on time and I fitted them to my car and they were easy to install , every thing went so well , very satisfied with this company and highly recommend

by:

Great. Exactly what I anticipated.

by:

Exactly as pictured!

Was looking
specifically for chains with cam tighteners built in the chains, but a lots of other web sites use same picture for chains without cam tighteners. Took awhile to find what I was looking for, but so glad etrailer.com use actual picture of the product!!

Shipping was great and chains are ready to be used!

2018 Toyota Highlander

Purchased Titan ladder type tire chains with v-bars for a new 2018 Toyota Highlander. I used the free shipping option -- received the chains in just a few days. Snow chains (in my case ice chains) are something you don't think about until you need them. Fortunately etrailer was excellent with their speed of delivery and yet the chains were valued priced. I like the Titan chains with the multiple cams to get the chains on good and tight.

I also liked the multi-arm rubber chain adjuster for additional insurance that the chains stay tight. I've used lots of different types of chain adjusters and these are the best -- economical, very easy to install and very effective.

After a winter and half of constant use, we are very pleased with these chains. Installation is easy and performance is great.

by:

Needed the chains today and they worked even better than expected. One recommendation I have is to paint the backside line a bright color because it makes getting the chains off a lot easier when crawling under.

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2007 Acura MDX with Tire Size 255/55R18
V-bar chains are the way to go for icy conditions as they do a great job breaking up the ice as the wheels turn. The Titan Chain part # TC2829CAM is a fit for your tire size of 255/55-18 and would be a great option. You'd need to check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine if you have any tire chain restrictions. If you find that you have to use Class S compatible chains the part # TC2029 will fit and are also Class S compatible.

  • Recommended Snow Tire Chains For Honda Pilot 2013 5DR 4WD-EX-L
The QCC Premium Cobra 1046P chains you mentioned are not the only option, they are just a recommended option from Honda due to limited clearance. We have other limited clearance options for your P235/60 R18 tires on your 2013 Honda Pilot 5DR 4WD EX-L. The Titan chains # TC2829CAM are confirmed to fit your tires, but I don't recommend them because they are not for the limited clearance that is labeled class S. • Recommended Snow Tire Chains For My 2021 Toyota Highlander
I did some research and I checked the owner's manual of your 2021 Toyota Highlander. You will need to use a Class S compatible snow tire chain, they are the only snow tire chains that meet your owner's manual tolerances. They are designed for tight wheel well clearances. The Titan chains, part # TC2829, and , part # TC2829CAM, you are inquiring about are not Class S compatible snow tire chains. • Easy to Install Tire Chain Recommendation for Tire Size 245/60-18
For your 2015 Toyota Highlander with tire size 245/60-18 I have a really great option for tire chains that install very easily. • What Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 2019 Toyota Highlander with 245/60-18 Tires?
Since you mention built-in cams, I believe you are referring to the Titan Snow Chains - V-Bar - Cams # TC2829CAM for your 245/60-18 tires on your 2019 Toyota Highlander. We do also sell these chains without the cams as part # TC2829. The only difference is that the # TC2829CAM are only approved for on-road use while the # TC2829 can be approved for on-road and off-road use. The V-bar links on both of these chains are not harder on the tires as long as you plan to use them in on snowy surfaces....
